How the WhatsApp QR code works
The code contains an official WhatsApp “click to chat” link in the form
https://wa.me/15551234567?text=Hello. Scanning it opens WhatsApp with your number
already selected and the message typed in the box. Nothing is sent until the person taps send.
Writing a good pre-filled message
- Say where they came from: “Hi! I saw your poster at the market.” — useful to know which ad works.
- Make the next step clear: “I’d like to book a table for…” or “Please send me the price list.”
- Keep it short so the code stays simple and easy to scan.
Where businesses use WhatsApp codes
- Shop windows and counters: “Message us for orders and delivery”.
- Packaging and receipts: support and re-orders.
- Flyers and posters: bookings, quotes and enquiries.
- Business cards and vehicle signs for tradespeople.
Frequently asked questions
How should I enter the phone number?
Use the full international number: country code first, then the number, for example +1 555 123 4567 or +44 7911 123456. Leave out any leading zero of the local number. Spaces, dashes and the plus sign are cleaned up automatically.
Does it work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes. The code opens a chat with any WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business number. It is a popular way for shops and service businesses to let customers start a conversation from a flyer, window sticker or receipt.
What if the person does not have WhatsApp installed?
The code opens a wa.me link. Without the app, the phone shows a WhatsApp web page that offers to install the app or continue on WhatsApp Web.
Can I make a QR code for a WhatsApp group?
Group invitations are ordinary links. In WhatsApp open the group, tap “Invite via link”, copy it and paste it into the URL QR code generator on our home page.
