How it works
The code contains an official Google Maps search link. Unlike older geo: codes, which
the iPhone camera ignores, a maps link works on every phone and lets people tap “Directions” right
away.
Great uses for a location code
- Wedding and party invitations — guests get directions in one scan.
- Event signs and tickets — the exact entrance, parking or meeting point.
- Holiday rentals — check-in instructions with the precise door location.
- Deliveries — a code on the gate for couriers to find the right building.
Tips
- For a business, enter the exact name as it appears on Google Maps to open its listing.
- Check the result by scanning the preview — make sure the pin lands in the right place.
- Write the address in text next to the code for people who prefer not to scan.
Frequently asked questions
Which maps app opens?
The code contains a Google Maps link. On Android it opens Google Maps; on iPhone it opens the Google Maps app if installed, otherwise the Google Maps website, where people can get directions or open Apple Maps.
Should I use an address or coordinates?
An address or place name is easiest and shows the business listing if there is one. Coordinates are better for places without an address — a campsite, a parking spot, a field entrance or a specific door of a large building.
How do I find the coordinates of a place?
Tap “Use my current location” while standing there, or in Google Maps long-press the spot and copy the numbers shown at the top (for example 48.8584, 2.2945).
Does it work offline?
Scanning works without internet, but showing the map requires a connection unless the person has offline maps downloaded.
